If Guatemala is not on your travel list, you need to revise your list. The city of Antigua is cuter than a box of puppies – I mean REALLY!!! The bright colors, volcanos in the background, delicious food and wonderful people – it is a must. You will not find any big chain hotels which I love. The boutique hotels are so decked out with pools and flowers it is such a welcoming change.
All the streets are cobblestone. Nice to look at but horrible on the feet. You can leave the heals at home.
The city is completely walkable day or night – very safe. You have the option of grabbing a taxi or the chicken bus for further distances. We booked group tours with Antigua Tours. Their service and hospitality were exception.
I can recommend a sports bar, cafe and dinner location. We fell in love with 3 places and pretty much stayed there for our entire stay.
- Barrista Cafe. It is right in town square. They have great service and food. You can order to go or grab a table.
- Sports Bar. Please visit Ojo de Torro (bullseye). For a sports bar they actually have a good menu selection and the food was good. David was an awesome bartender. He took the guys in our group out partying on his night off. Its located two doors down from our boutique hotel – Casa del Parque
- Dinner. You must try Frida’s named after the Mexican Artist, Frida Kahlo. We ate there three (3) nights in a row and each time ordered something new off the menu. All of it was delish!! The drinks are exceptionally wonderful.
