Beyond the Strip

I know the strip is fascinating especially if you love casinos but there are other attractions not far the strip. The Hoover Damn is less than an hour away along with Red Rock Canyon, and Valley of Fire. On this particular trip, April 2019, I visited an exhibit about 20 minutes from the strip.

Seven Magic Mountain

Just 20 minutes from the strip you will find an art exhibit of seven towers of colorful, stacked boulders standing more than 25 ft. high in the Ivanpah Valley. It cost 3.5 million to build but it is free to visit.

There is no public transportation to take you here since it is in the middle of the desert. I would recommend a car rental so you can visit the other attractions off the strip. If the doesn’t interest you there is always Uber and LYFT.

The exhibition opened May 11, 2016. The Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone created the exhibit. The seven pillars of neon-hued boulders were only scheduled to be on view for 2 years. So if you happen to be in Vegas you may want to check them out before they disappear.
