Today was a great day.  The weather could not have been better.  It was not too hot and it was sunny.  I woke up tired from watching Netflix until 2 AM but I was determined to tackle my list of adventures.


Zencaytion – Day 2

I started at 7AM with Sun Salutations in McDaniel’s Farm Park near my home.  I took my tripod so I could capture the ambiance of the park.  The trail is a little under a mile and it has a couple of small bridges, hills and ponds.

The poses I chose came randomly.  I decided to live in the moment and go with the flow.  I hope you enjoy them (see below).  I arrived back home around 8:30.  I showered and got ready for a a quick 1 mile run before my Hot Power I class at Red Hot Yoga in Alpharetta.  Class starts at 10AM and lasts for 90 minutes.  Monica, instructor, loves to challenge us.  This weekend I was able to get deeper in my lizard, pigeon and double pigeon poses.  Unfortunately I was not able to capture pictures after class.

I was drenched and starving, surviving only on a grande vanilla latte from Starbuck’s and a Roots and Juices cold pressed carrot, ginger and watermelon drink.  I rushed home and made lunch which consisted of minced turkey meat, brussel sprouts and sweet potato.  And of course a tall 16 oz mason jar full of apple cider vinegar and water.

So from around 1PM to about 4 PM I vegged on the couch and watched Netflix.  Think I might have dozed off a couple of times.  This is what you do on Zencaytion 😜.

It was approaching time to leave for my last yoga class of the day at Decatur Yoga and Pilates.  I am going to make the most of my 30 day unlimited pass with them.  Hannah was teaching the 6PM class again tonight and I thought she did a pretty good job yesterday.

No traffic today so I arrive 45 minutes early.  I sat in the car planning out my 4th of July travel.  I checked in on their iPad at the front desk, setup and waited for class to start.  There were only 10 of us today.  Hannah had a little more sun salutations this class as opposed to yesterday.  That was cool, just meant I had to work hard – LOL.

I was able to advance in two poses with Hannah.  I am so looking forward to be able to perform a handstand and full wheel pose.  The poses below are preparing my body for them.

Dolphin Pose

The dolphin pose is setting my body up for a handstand.  I need to gain strength in my forearms so that I can hold my weight up and not on my head.

Bridge Pose

I am so proud of myself.  I am actually holding myself up with my arms and core and balancing on the crown of my head.  Soon I will be able to move into the full wheel pose.  Each class I am getting stronger and more flexible.  I can’t wait to see where I will be at the end of my 35 days of a better Mimi.

Here are a couple of other things I learned today:

  1. If you have to re-adjust your feet when moving from downward dog to high plank, your stance is too short.
  2. In high plank you need to make sure your upper back is raised.
  3. When going into wheel and bridge pose, your elbows need to face inward and not flare outward
