The Grand Canyon – I visited via helicopter in 2015 but we were only allowed to land for 20 minutes. I wanted to see it from another vantage point so I signed up with Grand Canyon Tours for a road trip from Flagstaff, AZ. The drive from downtown Flagstaff is about 1.5 hours. There is an entrance fee and parking is first come, first served and not abundant
What I learned:
- More than 5 million tourist visit the canyon yearly and that number keeps increasing
- 40% of the tourists are from countries outside the USA
- The average visit lasts about 90 minutes
I can totally see why the average visit is only 90 minutes if you are just driving up to the Canyon. The Canyon looks pretty mush the same from most vantage points. You really have to hike, ride a donkey or come via helicopter to appreciate it. I am glad my first visit was via a helicopter.
Here are a couple of pictures from various vantage points.
