Medal Monday: State #30 – Kansas

Scout Strong Half Marathon and 5K benefiting the Scouting Program in Kansas was a very well organized event. Both races started on the Kansas Speedway for a loop and then the half marathon participants took to the streets. The race ended on the speedway with a complete loop of the speedway.

Race Recap:
Race started on time. Packet pickup was seamless. There was ample parking at the speedway and it was easy to find. Porta Potties and bathrooms were all over the place. They had blue, yellow and red Gatorade and they were every 1.5-2 miles. The course was no ways flat but I must say it was very scenic. We even ran through a country club/golf course. I think there were at least 200 or so participants for the half marathon.

The only issue I had was the WIND!!!  I noticed the dip in temperature leaving Atlanta on Friday evening but it was still warm enough for shorts. To my surprise arriving in Kansas City, it was 50 degrees and windy. I was informed it was in the 70’s around noon but the temperature dipped drastically. Race day it was warmer with the sun but the wind was still in full affect. At some points during the race the wind was so annoying I just started walking – LOL.

Overall I enjoyed the race. I registered late and it was still under $100 ($55) and I was able to get a good package via Expedia with car, hotel and air so I stayed under budget for this race. My next stop is CT in June.

Bring on state #31!!
